In physics, velocity measures the rate of change in position of a given object. But in order to derive it, the object’s speed and direction are both required.
Culture is important to all of us. Music, literature, education, politics, economics, religion, language, love… it all has both speed and direction.
We never stop moving. We slow down, we speed up. We shift, we turn. I admit and assert that mystery fills this world, and in particular, my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Cultural Velocity is me coming to terms with these things; thinking, measuring, examining, seeking, wondering, loving.
Soli Deo Gloria.
Love,
Evan

P.S. the two authors are Manuel Castells and Searle you have any opinions on these two
Ryan – thanks bro! Please let us know next time you’re in the area. We’d love to catch up. I’ve not heard of Castells, but I’ve taken courses with Searle, and found him to be a great lecturer… about himself. He assigns only his own books, and really doesn’t introduce or teach the field (of whatever he’s writing about). What of his are you reading? I think his stuff on intentionality is good. This admission of his is important, since he posits something other than just cold, hard material. He’s still a naturalist, but once you allow for a substance other than the physical, it’s just a slippery slope to the existence of immaterial soul/spirit.
But I’m no Searle expert. Tell me what you think of him…
