He assigns only his own books, and really doesn't introduce or teach the field (of whatever he's writing about). What of his are you reading? I think his stuff on intentionality is good. This admission of his is important, since he posits something other than just cold, hard material. He's still a naturalist, but once you allow for a substance other than the physical, it's just a slippery slope to the existence of immaterial soul/spirit. But I'm no Searle expert.
